Dear readers, thank you for your support. I understand that you guys are concerned over the matter that Facebook has been loading slowly for the past few days ever since the Tsunami hit Japan . However, there is no evidence showing that Japan Tsunami / Earthquake was the cause of this. Anyway, here’s how to speed up your Facebook .
P/S. this article was written on my test unit notebook and also tested there only. It will work. However, as a web developer or if you are concerned about running the localhost server, modifying the hosts file may affect you to not able to run localhost in the future. I am speaking from experience.
Step 1 : Modify host file (Browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc)
Step 2 : Copy and paste hosts file on to your Desktop
Step 3 : Open your hosts file with a Notepad
Step 4 : Add this to the bottom of all the lines of code (203.106.85.66 www.facebook.com)
Step 5 : Save it and replace the hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Step 6 : Run command prompt
Step 7 : Type the command ipconfig /flushdns
Step 8 : Restart your browser (close and open it again)
Step 9 : Go to Facebook.com and you will feel the difference
That’s not all
Step 10 : Go to Accounts > Account Settings > Account Security and tick “Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible”
DONE !!
You may also find security warning when browsing within the Facebook.com. This is because the IP address [203.106.85.66] which was set just now in the hosts file is a AkamaiGHost (Akamai’s HTTP Acceleration service), which is designed to serve as a “geographically co-located caching server” for a website. To protect yourself from opened attack and the to trust the connection more, enable HTTPS in Step 10.
Good luck and happy Facebook-ing . We do not condoned in modifying the hosts file but you may still try it at your own risk to feel what the hosts file can do for you. It’s just diverting the IP Address to the one you specified earlier which is a Facebook proxy server.
