Let’s see. In Malaysia, there are 2 main Internet Service Providers which are Streamyx (formerly known as TM.net for Dial-up users) and Jaring.my. It is prominent that, Streamyx is under one roof with Telekom Malaysia (TM) and both Streamyx and Jaring relies on Telekom Malaysia to provide the telephony infrastructure to their subscribers.

In the recent years, there comes the third true competitor, which is Packet One, currently deploying one of the first WiMax grid in the world. So how can you tweak around your connection. Once you are on the net, there is really nothing preventing you from using any other ISP’s name servers as your DNS servers.

Even the Telecommunication Companies are picking up
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participants. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical (binary) identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices worldwide. An often used analogy to explain the Domain Name System is that it serves as the “phone book” for the Internet by translating human-friendly computer hostnames into IP addresses. For example, www.example.com translates to 208.77.188.166.
I would presume each and everyone knows how to set their DNS. So there are 2 types, primary and secondary. What to determine for primary and the other? Do a ping test to the IP and set the lowest latency one as primary and the other as secondary. In Malaysia, there was an interval of moment where Streamyx (or still known as TM.net during that time) blocked user accessing from P2P clients to download media, this can always be rectified by routing the DNS Serves to others besides the few in Malaysia.
The Internet is supposed to be a collaborative friendly network of networks. The closest name servers outside of Malaysia reside in Singapore. Below are some name servers from Singapore’s Pacific Internet, SingNet, and StarHub.
The following DNS Serves have been tested by AdrianCJY.com and is functioning very well. Please choose the DNS IP after doing a ping test. We do not guarantee had you experience any unusual phenomena after changing your DNS.
Tips : Getting the DNS Server which is closest to you geographically will give you the optimum performance for browsing. Closest geographically refers to the lowest latency.

Do not panic!!
Changing the DNS sometimes changes your default search engine too. For instant, if you are using OpenDNS, all search from the address bar (scenario: Defaulted as Google Search Engine), it will directly display search keywords under http://guide.opendns.com/
Some DNS Servers also limits your Internet activity, example disabling certain port service like port 587 for Google SMTP. So choose wisely and try it out, choose the best that suits your requirements.
It’s totally NORMAL
