Maxis 3G Manual Configuration – Android

This entry was posted in Sharing is Caring and tagged , . Bookmark the permalink.

Basically, to send and receive MMS or in fact browsing the web using your Android is not easy. Much customizations needed to be done before that and your service provider usually don’t provide this Over the Air (OTA). Here’s how a typical Maxis / Hotlink user should do it. Unlike other devices / operating systems, Android APN combines both Internet and MMS together in a signle Access Point Names (APN Profile).

Here’s how you should do it. Ignore any settings / manual configuration from else where before today’s date.. These settings are all updated as of 11th August 2010 – 11PM (GMT +8). All settings are verified by Maxis Service Center – Advanced Troubleshooting Department. Here how you should do it..

Step-by-Step Instruction
Go to: Settings > Wireless and Networks Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Step 1: Create a new APN Profile
Step 2: Fill name as “Maxis 3G”
Step 3: Fill APN as “unet” (if you are a non-3G user, change to “net”)
Step 4: Fill Proxy as “202.75.133.49″
Step 5: Fill Port as “80″
Step 6: Fill Username as “maxis”
Step 7: Fill Password as “wap”
Step 8: Fill MMSC as “http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc”
Step 9: Fill MMS Proxy as “202.75.133.49″
Step 10: Fill MMS Port as “80″

Other fields leave blank / default value

Step 11: Save your Maxis 3G APN Profile. When you return to the previous screen, make sure Maxis 3G is selected and enabled (Green Radio Button indicated)

For users outside Malaysia, feel free to drop me an email – androidsupport@adriancjy.com if you have any difficulties in configuring for Internet and MMS

Hi Andrian, I’m using CSL Spice MI300. Maxis prepaid. Do everything as mention above but got error at MCC as it’s need 3 digit number. I think later MNC also will stuck as it ask for 2 digit number :(. Previously whenever MMS I receive I need to check ‘data enable’ every time to load it. Once MMS download, I need to turn on ‘data enable’ back; otherwise my money will go drain :P. I just happen to read here, thought, new setting will directly load my MMS without even bother to check and un-check ‘data anable’ again. But yet still stuck at the APN setting. You have any other option? Thanks and please do advice :D.

Hello, i’m very interested on this topic. My phone can receive and sending mms. But, the cons is when i turn on the packet data. my credit will be drain. i’ve already use the apps call apndroid, but it won’t work on my galaxy s plus. Could i know how to turn on only mms rather than internet that drain my credit?.

  16. Adrian says:

Hi Afis [Student] .. Unfortunately that is not possible for the android OS .. It is always recommended to turn it on where necessary or I would suggest to subscribe for unlimited data plan :)

  17. Adrian says:

Hi edd .. can you elaborate more on what you mean by the radio button ? If you are talking about the widget, then I am not able to help you coz that’s basically like your android widget .. you have to reinstall

  18. Sidney says:

Hey..i tried but when i activated my packet data, it’s still not connecting..even the ‘H’ sign do come show up. btw..im using Galaxy S2

  19. Adrian says:

Sidney !! For Galaxy S2 , you do not need configuration .. Try to reset network configuration and re-insert sim card .. The appropriate configuration shall be downloaded to your device automatically

    Dear Adrian,
can you help me on how to set Mobile Hotspot for Motorola Atrix using Maxis Data Plan?
    thanks..

  25. Adrian says:

Hi @riffaa80 .. For your information , the settings cannot be downloaded via the interactive menu .. The solution for this (after we encounter it ourselves) , replace a new sim card with Maxis and you will be able to get the APN Settings automatically without needing to configure it manually ..

  26. Adrian says:

Hi @zharif .. what is the OS version you are currently running please ?

  27. Adrian says:

You should be able to see Maxis 3G on the APN list instead of AT&T

  31. Anuar says:

I am using Samsung Galaxy S Plus with Maxis Hotlink line.
If I want to use the 3g network, can I just check the WCDMA without check ‘use packet data’ ?
I also having problem when using 3g, sending long sms often failed (about 95% failed and 5% sent through). It is no problem when I use GSM only network mode.
Have anyone having the same problem and how to solve it. Last choice I’m thinking to shift to another phone model or shifting to another network provider. (I have tried use the celcom sim card, it has no problem at all)

I have also went to Maxis center but the said it was no problem with my line… Need your advice Andrian or is anyone can help me?

  32. Adrian says:

@Anuar .. For best effect, I would recommend, to use packet data with 3G (I have Android OS and it doesnt work without that checked) .. Use only GSM as all service provider in Malaysia uses full GSM plexxing to all mobile receiver .. Actually WCDMA means 3G in simple terms .. Choose GSM to send SMS .. The fact that Celcom supports it with no problem because Celcom is part of TM, and they acquired the WCDMA technology long before others just that somehow they do not promote it ..

My best advice, either you try enabling packet data with 3G, or you can opt to change to Celcom .. Please bear in mind I stated these based on my understanding and does not represent voices of Celcom nor Maxis .

  33. Anuar says:

Thanks for your very informative and sincere answer. Actually to change to Celcom is my last choice as my whole family using Maxis now.

It is ok for me to enable packet data for 3g. But the problem is, if I do so … it will drain my credit and the worst thing is to send long sms become failed as I mentioned earlier. It’s a basic thing but a big problem for me.

I doubt it’s coz of Android OS as I used Galaxy Ace before without any problem sending sms and mms.

Is it changing phone model such as Galaxy s2 can solve this problem?

If not, I have no choice but to change to Celcom, so do my whole family got to change as well…

  34. Adrian says:

@Anuar I personally not too sure if it would solve your problem by changing the phone but most likely not .. As for the last resort, I think you have to switch to Celcom .. At the same time, I would also suggest you to perform a Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Switch as this would save your hassle to contact all your current contact person about the change of number and is costly :)

  35. faiz says:

hello..i have a problem to send mms..i use smsng s plus..already follw the step..but still have a problem..why..i need your help..
