OldTown White Coffee Signature, 1 Utama

I went over to OldTown to have my lunch after settling my errands in 1U. OldTown White Coffee (originated from Ipoh – famous with the fragrance of White Coffee) until now, April 2010, there are already 154 opened outlets nationwide. Unlike the Island Red Cafe (IRC) and Steven Tea Garden which is a scam, OldTown has successfully build up its brand as a whole new kopitiam style. Now, it doesn’t give an impression that having your meal in kopitiam is o’school anymore. They managed to merge the contemporary style of living and blend it with the conventional kopitiam style.

However, there are many copy-cats out there which came out with weird names, Old Taste, Old Coffee, GeorgeTown White Coffee, and some of these even used almost-same design of the logo.

They serve superb coffee beverages and today I tried their OldTown Iced Cold White Coffee. It was great. of course, you have to compare apple with apple, so don’t compare this ice blended beverage with Starbucks or Coffee Bean or Gloria Jeans or what so ever.

The OldTown Iced Cold White Coffee serve at RM 8.50 which I consider to be a very reasonable pricing. After many years in the business, now, OldTown has expanded to a Signature status. My first attempt to try out in the Signature OldTown was at 1 Utama (Old Wing) – just opposite U-Mobile in the Lower Ground floor.

The services provided over here, though it was lunch hour, I felt it was great. The staff are well trained and polite, the supervisors are also working together on the ground with other staffs. There was one of this foreign country staff, who did not understand my order well, yet, he didn’t try to be smart and took for granted, instead, the supervisor confirmed my request once again before placing the order – Wai Loon. In fact, they do close follow-ups with you which makes you feel very personalized.

Cleanliness wise, I would say is near to perfect except the window frames are a little bit dusty. Food wise, the menu is slightly different with more signature dish offers, like the signature rice, signature noodles and the menu was designed in a way that, simple, straight-forward, attractive and at the same time it preserves the “smell” of the White Coffee.

Apart from that, I also ordered my favorite Rendang Chicken Rice. The garnishing of Signature Old Town is different than others where they serve in a white plate. Sambal is cooked with Ikan Bilils and Sotong and the Chicken was well cooked with sufficient Rendang gravy on it.

Lastly, let’s talk about the ambiance. Interior design is maintained with the oriental taste and I personally feel that, you can take this OldTown White Coffee Signature in 1U as your mobile office because it offers high speed WiFi connection and I can say it’s quite a quiet place here. People don’t talk loudly. Thumbs up and great job to OldTown for such a breakthrough. This is the best old town I have ever been to.
