Streamyx for University / College Students

February 7, 2010 | With: Sharing Among

Updated : April 05, 2010

Now!! Even lower!!!

Note: For those who previously signed up / registered the Cool UniPack where the price is slightly higher, please note that, your new bill should follow the rates as stated in the table below, should you have trouble getting the lower rate, please call 100 and speak to the Billing Department

Heard of the new student package from Streamyx ? It’s so worth it if you look into it closely. First, let’s see the packages offered.

Streamyx CoolUni Pack Promotion

You might be confused with the calculations looking at the table above. Here’s a simplified one. If you choose to go for :

Option 1:
385kbps – Pay Nothing but RM 38 per month
[Total = RM 38 only]

Option 2:
512kbps – Add RM 15 per month + the basic RM 38 Subscription Fees
[Total = RM 53 only]

Option 3:
1mbps – Add RM 30 per month + the basic RM 38 Subscription Fees
[Total = RM 68 only]

Option 4:
2mbps – Add RM 45 per month + the basic RM 38 Subscription Fees
[Total = RM 83 only]

Option 5:
4mbps – Add RM 50 per month + the basic RM 38 Subscription Fees
[Total = RM 88 only]

Between the 4th and 5th option, I would suggest you to add the RM 5 to get 2mbps faster speed. So now, what’s next? You need to get a few documents from your college and need to be verified. You need to bring along your student ID, college / university offer letter for your intake and a reference letter from your college as a acknowledgment stating that you are a student in that particular college / university. Your college / university’s Student’s Affair Department / Student Services would be able to assist you with it.

Now, check out whether your college / university are one of those selected by Streamyx, call 100. If yes, your college / university management will be notified and they will be aware of it. They have to sign and acknowledge on the Streamyx Application Form (Get this at any TM Points).

All done ? Get yourself to the TM Point and proceed with registration. If your current Streamyx account is registered under your name and you appear to be a student at the particular college / university, you can upgrade from your current Streamyx package. However, if it is not, you would be required to register a new account under your own name. Now here’s the scenario, you need to get a new telephone line too (new TM number). On the registration day, bring along RM 135 (RM 10 for document stamp duty, RM 75 for deposit, RM 50 for new line registration), can be paid by Credit Card, Debit Card or Charge Card.

One day after that, you shall expect TM Staff from Bangsar to call you to confirm on your registration and make appointment with the Contractor / Technician to pull the new wiring from the pole (usually behind your house) – Chargeable on the spot RM 30 – RM 50 depending on the distance of your house from the poll.

It’s the most worth-it package I ever seen from Streamyx. So I have subscribed on it, why not you? More reviews will be up once I feel my hands on the 4mbps. Find out more here at Streamyx website.

Note :
· The contract is 24 months from the activation of your new Streamyx service – No activation fees, No technician fees, No registration fees.
· For the first month, you would have to pay RM 88 – assuming option 4 (RM 88 for current month + RM 88 advance payment for following month)
· Free netbook will be shipped by Hewlett-Packard (HP) to your house within 14 days after Streamyx activation.
· Also, your Streamyx ID (username and password) will be enabled for all StreamyxZone nationwide.
· Free WiFi Modem

i think other broadband providers in uni are pretty sucky.. streamyx has to save the student? =P

Adrian

February 7th, 2010 at 1:39 PM

other UNI sucky anot i cant tell. But APIIT is not that good though. Anyway this is a good initiative from Streamyx in order to boost their products and services as most of this time, their services are not as good. maybe they can consider this as a turn over , starting from students first.. Btw, HSBB is coming up soon to more location, currently, Subang, Shah Alam, and TTDI

Adrian

February 25th, 2010 at 2:34 AM

doing migration i don’t think is possible coz the grad pack i presume you are tied to a contract. I think you have to bear with it. one more solution is you urself go get this uni pack.. but then one more thing, if you terminate your current gradpack, i think you have fine over it.. if i m not mistaken

What TM means by this condition ‘Students must be enrolled as 1st or 2nd year students at any public or private higher educational institution in Malaysia’ ? If i am student which currently taking degree second year? I have left around one year and 2 month in my university, it is possible for me to apply this uni pack?

Adrian

a hint for you. ignore that, as long as your form got acknowledged by your college, they wont check further. Coz your college has the last say

Is the 2mbps available at every state? How do I know whether the broadband coverage of each area?

Adrian

April 24th, 2010 at 9:42 PM

For 2mbps, the area of coverage of it has been expanded. But different areas are connected and supported by different ports that connect. So to get the most accurate answer for your question, I would suggest you to call 100 from your TM Homeline or 1300889515 and choose for technical support to seek for assistance, the support staff would be able to check for you more accurately.

wilson

April 29th, 2010 at 12:00 AM

i thought the 1st month has 50 % discount? and there is no rental fee for the phone. The guyz in Tm point said that my area has no more port because i told him tat my house r using streamyx under my dad’name? Is he cheating me?

Adrian

April 29th, 2010 at 1:04 AM

Hi Wilson, about the 50% discount i presume there is no such promotion for unipack. As for rental free, you are right, there is no rental fee for telephone service (this is for new phone line application); if you are still using the current phone line which is registered under your dad’s name, there will still be phone rental as usual. May I know which area are you at now that you want to apply for streamyx ? Because there are quite a number of places where the ports are full. Cheras has got quite few areas having this problem for your information..

wilson

i live in jalan kelab ukay 2…why 1st month ned to pay rm100x2? but not rm53x2?

Adrian

April 29th, 2010 at 9:57 AM

wilson, for the first month, YES, is RM 53 x 2 which is the new promotional price. I am sorry on the RM 100 x 2. that’s the old price, we will update it asap. Thanks for telling. As for your location, besides asking in TM Point, i would suggest to call 100 from your TM homeline and ask the technical support team.

April 29th, 2010 at 4:27 PM

Hi, my mum called to TM point this morning. The person in charge told her there is no free broadband for unipack. We can get one netbook and broadband for 2 years once we subscribed right?

Adrian

April 29th, 2010 at 9:54 PM

Hey Weinyi,

Of course there is no free broadband.. the meaning free broadband is eventually just a marketing term . you still have to pay that amount each month depending on the packages you are interested in. Once you start using streamyx, give a maximum of 14 workings days for them to send you the HP Mini Netbook

jay

May 2nd, 2010 at 8:10 AM

i’m a bit confused… coz i don’t really familiar wif streamyx. neva use it, neva even care.. so, why for the 385 package have to pay 50? why not juz 38?

Adrian

May 2nd, 2010 at 10:48 AM

we are truly sorry Jay. correct it is only RM 38, it was not updated in our calculation before this because, before the new promotion, it was RM 50 for the 385 package. Our apologies

May 9th, 2010 at 9:22 PM

I want to ask whether the 385kb package got any limit after a period of usage?

Adrian

May 9th, 2010 at 9:32 PM

hey Adrian too ? lol hmm according to the tm, there is no limit, but base on my own experience there is some data cap where you will get slower browsing speed once reach more than 20gb

May 25th, 2010 at 8:11 PM

hey. a question here. i’ve subscribed cool uni pack at the end of march. i subscribed 4 mbps which should be 88/month. but for my first bill, they charged me 70.90 whereas the second bill they charged me 140. something wrong right?

Adrian

May 25th, 2010 at 8:17 PM

Hi Carrie, to my understanding, RM 70.90 is the pro rated charges. Meaning maybe from the activation date to the billing date is not a full 30-day (1 month), so the system had divided into days using the total RM 88 and multiply with the days of usage of the billing period. As for the RM 140, i believe is also another adjustment which I am not too sure over it. You can call 100 and select Billing Enquiries to check on it. Just give them your fixed line number that you have registered for your Steamyx UniPack.

carrie

May 25th, 2010 at 8:25 PM

they sent me the netbook few weeks ago. meaning i subscribed the cool uni pack right? i’ve called just now. and i think the lady told me something like what u explained to me. my cousin told me maybe they mistaken my package means they charged me the price for normal package which is RM140. i tried to call again but failed :x how much actually i should pay for the second bill?

Adrian

May 25th, 2010 at 8:40 PM

for consecutive months it will only be chargeable at RM 88 per month.. hope this helps.. try calling them again later to clarify ^^

Adrian

I am sorry Moon, i might not get your question clearly.. Did you just say you got internet provided in your hostel? If yes, why do you still need to register for a new account ?

Jenn

May 28th, 2010 at 9:05 PM

Adrian, which tm point did u went to subscribe this uni pack, i heard some tm point can approve and activate your application very fast and some are very slow

Adrian

May 28th, 2010 at 10:01 PM

I did it at TM Puchong. not bad.. quite fast their working speed

Jenn

May 29th, 2010 at 1:00 PM

I plan to subscribe to uni pack tho, but currently I already have streamyx, I’m not sure how long is the process to upgrade to uni pack, do u think I should cancel my existing streamyx account and re-register for uni pax

Adrian

May 29th, 2010 at 1:42 PM

cancelling and register again sounds hassle. it currently is under your name, I would suggest perform an upgrade then you shall expect within 3 – 4 weeks

xien

May 30th, 2010 at 1:42 PM

Adrian, i’ve subscribe the rm50 uni package for speed 384kbps few months ago before the rm38 package been released. The rm50 that i’m paying now include the phone line rental. So at what rate tm is gonna charge me now? izit rm38 or rm53? I din apply for new phone line during the uni pack installation.

Adrian

May 30th, 2010 at 3:52 PM

You will now follow the new rate as RM 38. If it is not amended, call 100 and select Billing Enquiries and remind them to adjust in the next month’s bill. I am now following the new rate at RM 88.. for 4mbps

xien

May 30th, 2010 at 9:11 PM

so will the new rate rm38 include the phone line rental?

Adrian

May 30th, 2010 at 9:14 PM

I am sorry xien, i am not too sure about it. Because my package, it doesnt charge me on phone line rental. Maybe yours in a newer package with I have heard my friend saying, the phone line can make outgoing calls as usual. My phone line (new one), can only make outgoing calls using TM i-Talk card

Quincy

June 3rd, 2010 at 3:13 PM

den if i apply a new line….den izint include rental fee?or not nid rental fees…juz pay wat package i applied to? n d first mth…total i nid to pay hw much?

Adrian

June 3rd, 2010 at 3:17 PM

I presume there will be no rental fees because this is a college student pack.. I didn’t pay for any rental though. First month, pay double what you need for your package, inclusive of upfront payment for next month. That’s all for their bill. Of course if your service was set up a bit later, they will pro-rate the whole calculation and will inform you accordingly

Jenn

June 3rd, 2010 at 11:34 PM

I went to TM Point this afternoon to get the application form, and the TM fellar told me that uni pack netbook is finished, only left the streamyx package itself to subscribe, wtf? netbook out of stock?

Adrian

June 4th, 2010 at 12:07 AM

Gosh!! Which outlet you went, Jenn ?? I am shocked to learn that.. I still have some friends waiting for the netbook

Jenn

June 4th, 2010 at 12:22 AM

I went to TM point PJ, and I just found some ppl complaint the same thing here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1431180/+660

if your friends streamyx has been activated before 1 June, then they should be getting their netbook, but for new application i think no

Adrian

June 4th, 2010 at 12:28 AM

I think it was a ripped off.. Thanks alot jenn for sharing. I will write a review on this matter. No matter how good they have been with the promotions and things. But still this reflects they are not doing the right thing.. u try to go to their website. The promotion banner is still up there.. Its kinda ridiculous

Jenn

June 4th, 2010 at 12:39 AM

No problems, I am shocked too when i was told about no netbook anymore, I just went to streamyx website, and look what i’ve found? they launch another new promotion very similar to uni pack http://www.streamyx.com/promotions/promotions.php?id=promotions

Adrian

June 4th, 2010 at 12:50 AM

Indeed, Jenn. Very similar . Now they are trying to get attention on the UniFi.. HSBB.. Anyway, do you have a blog ?

Quincy

June 4th, 2010 at 3:17 PM

if i dun hv tm homeline…..den can i apply tis package ?by apply a new i talk line?n no rental fees also right?

Adrian

June 5th, 2010 at 1:13 AM

You are right Quincy. By applying a new iTalk based phone line, no rental will be imposed. And all streamyx account must be attached to one TM Homeline. Therefore it is a must to have a fixed line.

Quincy

June 5th, 2010 at 6:13 PM

i hv a question…..broadband can connect anyway right?….but why tis package gt giv free wifi moden?

Adrian

June 5th, 2010 at 9:58 PM

hmm don get it wrong Quincy… this broadband is just like the streamyx we use now. Not the one like maxis broadband or digi broadband .. but your Streamyx Broadband ID can be used in all Stremyx Zone WiFi area

Quincy

June 6th, 2010 at 5:29 PM

den hw i know whr is streamxy zone wifi area?

Adrian

June 6th, 2010 at 7:19 PM

the WiFi zones are usually available in the college or university area and also secret recipes. u will see a banner there written streamyx WiFi zone available here…

Hi there, I’m so so lucky that I found ur blog. Really good review I must say =) I’m so into this uni pack right now cos everyone’s been talking about it and that it’s so worth it! But the thing is, I’m a Streamyx user now that’s registered under my mom’s name.. I’ve been reading all the posts, but the thing is, I don’t get it why do I have to cancel my account when I have a fixed line at home with TM now? I mean, can’t I just change ownership maybe? Or is there any other thing that I can do without needing to cancel it all? Cos I can’t afford letting myself internet-less for so a month! Haha..

Adrian

June 20th, 2010 at 12:46 AM

Hey there Robin,

Glad that you found my blog useful. The ownership can be transferred but that takes up to 14 days. And after 14 days of the ownership transfer, you will be registered to the new UniPack package. I don’t think this will interfere your current connection but it will just eventually takes more time for all the processes until you are a UniPack user. By the way, I should remind you this is only based on certain TM Points. Try going to TM Puchong and i would say that outlet give quite a prompt and quick service. And do remind them you are not affordable to loss your Internet connection.

Also, confirm with them on the stock availability of the HP Mini Netbook. I heard it’s running dry. Hope it helps you dude..

Robin Cheah

June 20th, 2010 at 12:56 AM

Oh my God.. Seriously, I really really respect an efficient and fast blogger like u, who really took the effort to reply ur comments.. Seriously bro, really respect u for that =)

Yeah, of course I find it so useful, especially with ur replies to the comments u get and all. Oh, meaning I don’t have to lose my connection?! How did u manage to go about with yours ya? Like u said, it needs to take 14 days to transfer ownership right? So, can I still use my streamyx during that period? I don’t mind if I need to wait for a month to be a unifi user actually, as long as I still can use my internet I’m really happy with it.. Do i need to cut it still? haha..

I think I read somewhere that TM Bangsar also can right? My college is nearer to Bangsar actually. U heard anything abt Bangsar? And I’m living in Cheras actually. I wonder if they have it there already..?

Yeah, I will definitely confirm with them on the netbook. Since their advert is still on their website, they shud have it right.. if not they are eligible to be sued actually.. haha..

Adrian, once again, thank u so so much for ur effort to reply.. =)

Adrian

June 20th, 2010 at 1:03 AM

Oh UniFi and UniPack different bro.. UniFi refers to the HSBB – High Speed Broadband which is only supported currently in a few places which I knew were.. TTDI, Shah Alam, Bangsar .. Well, for me the way i did was getting a new line coz i didn’t want to wait for ownership transfer. I wanted the fast line quick.. Anyway, you can always go to TM Bangsar coz that is the HQ for TM. Before my installation of my new line (this is not TM Puchong’s fault), it has been delayed many times by the contractor and in fact i was accused for postponing the installation myself. I was quite annoyed that time so i made my complaint straight to TM Bangsar and the problem got rectified within the same day.

For the downtime you were emphasizing that you do not wish to be Internet-less, i truly understand, you must check with the TM again, to confirm your area at Cheras supports concurrent transfer from your current package to the UniPack.
Wish you luck

ps. thanks for your compliment too =]

Robin Cheah

June 20th, 2010 at 1:15 AM

Oh, there’s a difference? Oops.. my bad.. Hehe.. Got confused with those 2.. So means, I can actually apply for a new line at the same time when I have a line at home? Isn’t like one house is eligible for one line only or something? In that case, then I should just apply for a new line right, at least if they say gotta go internet-less then I have my line already? haha..

Oh my.. so inefficient.. Can accuse the customer some more.. Luckily the Bangsar TM solved the problem, and within the same day huh.. shows that they’re quite efficient maybe..? haha.. Yeah, sorry for the high emphasis.. hehe.. but yeah, really can’t afford going internet-less.. Must I go to their centre or can I just call them (100 or 1300-88-9515)? Is it better to walk-in into their centre at Bangsar? Cos for some question, those ppl at centre can’t answer, based on my experience, especially those technical question..haha

Adrian

June 20th, 2010 at 1:20 AM

Robin,

You are right, some questions cannot be answered over the phone. For the application, YES, it is better to have 2 lines.. One house can have one line was referring to 1 owner 1 line.. Since it was your mom’s and now you getting one under yours.. it is fine.

The UniPack Application you have to go to the TM Point. Can’t be done on the phone, not even for the ownership transfer. You need a few documents from your university.. and here are what users usually do..

Step 1 : Go to TM Point and obtain the application form
Step 2 : Request documents from university / college – Reference Letter and Intake Letter
Step 3 : Submit your form to TM Point
Step 4 : Payment made

On the registration day, bring along RM 135 (RM 10 for document stamp duty, RM 75 for deposit, RM 50 for new line registration), can be paid by Credit Card, Debit Card or Charge Card.

Robin Cheah

June 20th, 2010 at 1:30 AM

Hi there, thanks for ur info. I’ve just added u on FB =)

Thanks so much Adrian for the useful info =D. So, when u say u applied for a new line, it’s actually RM135 huh? I have a friend who did that process, he has to cancel off his streamyx, which takes about a month and they said it’s a normal process.. So, what makes us eligible to apply for a new line ya? Student can apply huh? Looks simple enough huh the 4 steps u listed.. =)

Oh ya, just another thing. U mentioned that we can just ignore about our year in college. I’m actually final year now, graduating soon already (year 3).. if u say we can just ignore that right, wouldn’t they check what year we are in by the intake letter or something? haha..

So, how long u got ur unipack after u applied?

Adrian

June 20th, 2010 at 1:34 AM

Robin,
Yeap, got you on fb.. err my whole process until i got my Netbook was around 2 weeks.. Minus off the CNY week holiday which i was not around. Anyway, about cancelling off the current streamyx, i don’t think so. They will ask you to do so, even mine they asked but i told them no no and a no.. haha.. coz you know i can’t live without it even a day..

And you were saying you are a final year student, i think that doesnt really matter as long you are still one of the valid student there currently..

Robin Cheah

June 20th, 2010 at 1:48 AM

Oh, 2 weeks huh? Not bad la actually.. Then if no, what can u do? Oh ya, u applied for a new line right? Maybe i should consider that also la.. haha..

As long as I’m a student huh.. yeah, just get my college to sign the form or something la huh.. =)

Adrian

June 20th, 2010 at 1:50 AM

You are right man.. applying new line.. lesser hassle.. LOL

Keep in touch… Do update me when you got it ok ?
Take care

I’m so great I found your blog~ Im now a streamyx user which is under my name, so if i want to apply uni pack, i need upgrade it which take few weeks right? After upgrade, will anything happen to my house phone number ?

Adrian

June 23rd, 2010 at 6:50 PM

Hi Xion.. Well, i am happy too you find it useful to you.. Once you upgraded from your current package to the UniPack, the phone number remains the same and all features are untouched. Except your Streamyx will then be Steamyx Cool UniPack..

hey, nice to find ur blog, may i noe i now using streamyx under packej combo, then can i change my current packej to streamyx unicool packej??

Adrian

June 23rd, 2010 at 9:22 PM

hi Patrick, first we would evaluate your period in using this combo pack. usually the contract is either 12 or 24 months. If you are already been using more than the contract period, you can upgrade your package to cool unpack anytime. To get the most accurate time frame for your current contract, you can either call TM helpline or visit any TM point nationwide. hope this help you..

patrick goh

June 23rd, 2010 at 9:26 PM

ok~thx for ur helpful information,1 thing i nid to ask again is if my contract stil haven finish, can i stil change the current packej to unicool packej?

Adrian

in that case I am afraid not. provided you are paying for the remaining period because I believe your current combo package is attached with a Streamyx internet service.

Adrian

Well, if you paid the remaining period, technically, nothing is holding you back. Again I would suggest you to check it out with Streamyx again to confirm all the details.. They at the end of the day have rights to amend the terms and conditions. So to play on the safe side, refer to them on the transition. But I am very sure that if you are still bonded with the current combo pack contract, then you are not able to upgrade.

The other option is to get an entire new line under your name too.

Thank you for ur previous reply.. By the way, will the price of unipack change to normal price after a few years? I dont want to see that there’s a 3 digits number appear in my bill.. lol ..

Adrian

xion… For now TM will unlikely increase the price. Even you sign up this UniPack as a student and few years later you are not anymore, you will still be paying the same rate. In my opinion, the rate will get lower. Coz Internet is getting more common and fibre optic is yet to be introduced throughout malaysia.

Adrian

July 10th, 2010 at 11:05 PM

you should expect around 1 – 2 weeks for them to process your application. for the netbook is no more HP Mini 201 like the one in my blog.. its now HP Mini 101.. That you should get it within 2 weeks after service is activated for you, Patrick

Hi Andrew, addressing to your issue, you are indeed right, the phone rental should be waived. I would suggest you call 100 and choose Billing Enquiries, address your issue to ask them rectify it.

hi… appreaciating ur help… thx 1st…
wanna ask if i’m 4 yr undergraduate, is that i still eligible to apply 4 tis package… if i’m in penang… can i apply at penang switching to my name while the users (my family) using it at sarawak there? cox i study at penang. and, my home current streamyx is registered by my sister’s name.. is it possible to switch package to my name to uni package for my home in sarawak…

thx ya.. ^^

Adrian

Hi evian.. I apologized for the late reply. yes you can still apply for that package as long as you still have a valid student ID and a current student at your university. However, since it’s under your sister name, TM will need to do ownership transfer which takes up to a maximum of 14 working days. And you can apply at Penang but install in Sarawak..
